AVID Elective Teacher

My name is Wendy Butler, I'm a Lakewood graduate with a passion for education and a desire to see others succeed.  Although teaching has always been my dream and love, middle school teaching is my second profession.  As a Registered Nurse I found myself in numerous educator roles but my love for education was not being fed.  I entered my second career as a Middle School Math Teacher in 2012 and have loved it every day since. I do not consider it a job but rather a calling and one I try to fill with all I possibly can give.  

This year, my sixth year at RSMS as a teacher, is bringing a new excitement.  I am bringing the AVID program back to life within our school.  I am the AVID coordinator as well as the AVID elective teacher.  You may be wondering "What is AVID?" AVID is a program that prepares students for college readiness so they can be successful when they get there.  The most exciting factor of AVID to me though is the population it reaches.  AVID's mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success.  I am excited to see what AVID will bring to RSMS and the success it will bring to our students.
