Renewal Credit Guidelines for Certified Staff
Sampson County Schools is in the process of updating the system that is presently being used to track certified employees’ professional development and renewal credits. At the present time most employees are having difficulty accessing the site to “look up their CEUs” through Microsoft Edge. Until the new system is in place staff may contact Brenda Nordin, SCS director of new teacher support, who will be able to scan a copy of the individual’s CEUs. Email Brenda Nordin.
If a certified employee attends a professional development activity sponsored by Sampson County Schools he/she does not need to submit any documentation. The principal or director will submit all documentation necessary for CEUs (Continuing Education Units) to be recorded. If a sign n sheet is used participants must print their name as it appears in SCS payroll system.
If a certified employee attends a professional development activity sponsored by an outside organization he/she must submit the certificate of credit given to him/her by the sponsor to Brenda Nordin. The following information must be on the certificate:
Full name and base school
Sponsoring agency, title of workshop and the date of completion
Number of contact hours/CEUs awarded for the activity
Requirements for the Renewal of a Continuing License Expiring on or After June 30, 2024:
Grades Pre-K -5
30 hours (3.0 CEUs) in content, 30 hours (3.0 CEUs) in literacy 20 hours (2.0 CEUs) in general*
Grades 6-12
40 hours (4.0 CEUs) in content and 40 (4.0 CEUs) in general*
Student Services Personnel
40 hours (4.0 CEUs) in Professional Discipline Area and 40 hours (4.0 CEUs) in General
Administrators
40 hours (4.0 CEUs) in Executive Role and 40 hours (4.0 CEUs) in General
National Board Certification
Initial National Board Certification Process 8.0 CEUs (meets all renewal requirements for
CURRENT renewal cycle)
Renewal of National Board Certification Process 2.0 CEUs in academic content
*General credits refers to any credits above and beyond the credits required in specific area
