Sandra Peterson is currently a fifth grade teacher at Union Intermediate School. Her motto is "The more I learn, the more I learn how much I have to learn." She graduated from Hope Mills High School as Salutatorian and president of the Future Teachers of America with Beta Club Honors. She attended East Carolina University, Atlanta Baptist College (an extension of Emory University in Atlanta) and Methodist College where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She began her teaching career at Ponderosa where she taught for 20 years. Here she was named Teacher of the Year for her school and as Cumberland County Teacher of the Year. During this time she earned her Master's in Reading Education and a second master's in Administration and Supervision. She transferred to E.E. Miller Elementary for five years. As a member of the leadership team, her school was named the first North Carolina Entrepreneurial School of Excellence and a national Blue Ribbon School. In 1998, she became engaged to Billy Peterson. She moved to Sampson County as his wife in 1999 and subsequently began teaching at Union Elementary School until the fourth and fifth grades were transferred to Union Intermediate School. She was proudly named Union Intermediate School Teacher of the Year for 2020-2021. Currently she will begin her 49th year of teaching-the greatest career in the world. I strive to love and teach students to value the love of learning in their lives.
