COVID-19 Information for Schools

Last Updated May, 2023

Effective May 12th, 2023, COVID-19 is no longer considered a reportable condition by North Carolina state law (10A NCAC 41A .0101). This means that physicians and laboratories are no longer required to report individual cases or deaths to the local public health departments. Although individual cases are not reportable, we are still required to investigate and report outbreaks to the state per Rule 10A NCAC 41A .0103, as with other non-reportable conditions- e.g., influenza, RSV, norovirus. We will still need to continue monitoring for an unusual increase in absenteeism (that may be due to an illness which would require an intervention from public health staff) just as we did prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

If someone does test positive, the recommendations for how long to isolate at home remain unchanged and can be found here.

COVID-19 Antigen and PCR tests are available through a kiosk located outside of the Sampson County Health Department. I have attached a flyer to this email- please share! The kiosk can be accessed 24/7 and is no out-of-pocket cost for the individual.

COVID-19 vaccines are available and remain at no cost for the individual. We offer vaccines on Wednesdays and Fridays as a walk-in clinic- no appointment necessary.
