At their May 21 board work session, the SCS Board of Education approved the recommendation from SCS Superintendent Dr. Jamie King to name Melissa Finch as the new principal of Union Elementary School.
Finch moves into her new role with over 22 years of experience in education all with Johnston County Schools. Prior to serving as an assistant principal of South Smithfield Elementary since 2021, Finch was the assistant principal of West Johnston High from 2016 to 2021 and a testing coordinator and curriculum coach of West Johnston High from 2015 to 2016. She began her teaching career as an elementary school teacher in 2002 at Four Oaks Elementary.
Finch holds a master’s degree in executive leadership from Gardner-Webb University, a North Carolina Teacher’s Certification in K-6 from Campbell University and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
“We are excited for this new journey for Mrs. Finch and know that her educational leadership experience will serve Union Elementary School well,” said SCS Superintendent Dr. Jamie King.
Finch will begin her principalship at Union Elementary on July 1, 2024.
