The SCS Board of Education celebrated the academic growth achievements of several schools during their December 2024 regular board meeting. These recognitions highlighted the progress students made during the 2023-24 school year.
Academic growth reflects how much students improved academically over the previous year, corresponding to about one year's worth of expected growth for a year of instruction. This growth is categorized into three levels—Exceeded Growth Expectations, Met Growth Expectations, or Did Not Meet Growth Expectations—based on data from EVAAS, a statistical tool utilized in North Carolina to assess student progress through common assessments.
In the elementary school division, Hobbton Elementary, Plain View Elementary, and Roseboro Elementary met growth expectations, while Hargrove Elementary and Salemburg Elementary exceeded them. Among middle schools, Union Middle met its growth goals. In the high school division, Lakewood High met growth expectations, while Sampson Early College exceeded them. Additionally, Sampson Early College received a certificate of achievement for its impressive 97.9% graduation rate.
