NC College Connect Student Letter

Student notification update

This week, letters are being sent to high school seniors who are eligible for the NC College Connect simplified application process. Please reference the information below and the frequently asked questions on our Educator Resource Page to help your students navigate this pilot program.

In addition to receiving a mailed letter, there are several ways students can check their eligibility.

  • Students can log on to their account at CFNC.org at any time to check their eligibility.

  • Lead school counselors and/or data managers received a list of eligible students from NCDPI in September. School personnel are encouraged to reach out to any student on the list who is a McKinney-Vento student or otherwise known to not have access to the mailing address on file at the end of the 2023-24 school year.

  • Eligible students will be sent a reminder postcard in the mail in November.

As a reminder, NC College Connect is led by the UNC System, in partnership with the NC Department of Public Instruction, the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority, GEAR UP North Carolina, the NC Community College System and the Office of the Governor. Full eligibilty requirements and a list of participating institutions are available at NCCollegeConnect.org.

Three Simple Steps for Students

  1. Get Notified
Eligible students will receive a letter in the mail in mid-October. They should scan the QR code on their letter to visit NCCollegeConnect.org, where they can access the application portal.

  2. Log In
On NCCollegeConnect.org, qualifying students will be directed to log into the NC College Connect portal using their existing CFNC.org account information, or they will be prompted to create a new CFNC account.

  3. Claim Your Spot
After logging in, students will see a complete list of participating institutions where they can claim their spot by completing a simplified application for each college or university.
