More than 100 Sampson County high school students spent the morning at Sampson Community College learning about health care career opportunities.
One of the highlights of the day was the SCC Healthcare Simulation Lab. The simulation lab is a cutting-edge facility designed to deliver immersive, hands-on learning experiences for students in a safe and controlled environment. Equipped with a realistic clinical setting, the lab features high-fidelity mannequins, including adult male and female models, a newborn, and a birthing mannequin. These tools allow learners to practice and refine their clinical skills without the risk of patient harm. Students engage in diverse simulation scenarios, such as managing pediatric asthma attacks, addressing gastrointestinal bleeds, handling labor and delivery complications, responding to cardiac arrests, and treating newborn hypoxia. These realistic exercises prepare students for real-world healthcare challenges by enhancing their clinical expertise and confidence.
Students had an opportunity to meet with representatives from various health care organizations, like hospitals, clinics, and medical schools, to learn about potential career paths, internship opportunities, and educational programs available to them in the medical field.
“It is such an exciting opportunity to host these students and to expose them to so many interesting and important health care career opportunities available to them right here in eastern North Carolina,” said John Goode, director of Sampson County Schools' Career and Technical Education program. "We hope that today served as inspiration for them as they make important decisions about their future.”
