May Scholarships

1 - Phyllis Avery Lane Scholarship - UHS only

The scholarship is awarded based on the candidate’s character, scholastic records, evidence of intellectual promise, demonstration of ambition, leadership ability, and need for financial assistance.

  1. Applicant must be a senior at Union High School.

  2. Applicant must be in the top 25th percentile of the graduating class.

  3. Applicant must use the official form, completing all parts and providing all needed documents.

  4. Applicant must attend a North Carolina College or University where monies shall be used.

  5. Applicant must be a permanent legal citizen of the United States.

1-Rho Omega Omega Chapter Scholarship

a. Rho Omega Omega Chapter Scholarship – Applicants attending a 2-year or 4-year college or university. Applicants must be attending as a freshman in the fall. 

b. Janet Spaulding Scholarship-Applicants attending a 2-year or 4-year college or university. Applicants must have plans of majoring or minoring in music or major in education. Applicants must be attending as a freshman in the fall  

SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 

  • 1.  Rho Omega Omega Chapter Scholarship: GPA of 2.5 or higher 

  •  2. Demonstrates leadership in church, school, civic, or community  service 

  • 3. Evidence of financial need 

  • 4. Minority member 

  • 5. Applicant must be entering college as a freshman the fall of 2025.

  • 6. A resident of Sampson or Bladen County

  • Application can be found in Google Classroom and in the scholarship display

1 - Bertha and Samuel Butler Scholarship

  • Must be attending a HBCU

  • Application can be picked up in guidance/scholarship display

1 - Johnston Community College

The JCC scholarship application will be open Feb 15 - May 1.

1 - Blueberry Festival Scholarship

Criteria and Requirements

1.   Senior in secondary education. Reside or attend school in one of the following counties in North Carolina: Bladen, Duplin, New Hanover, Pender, or Sampson.
2.  Write and submit an essay on the provided topic.
3.  Provide a list of your past and present community involvement activities
4.  Acceptance into an accredited two- or four-year college or university.
5.  Full-time college enrollment .
6.  Pursuit of a degree in an agricultural field of study is not required.

1-Woodmen Life-MHS and LHS ONLY

  • Must be Woodmen Life and attend MHS or LHS

  • Note the school name on top of the application in Google Classroom. There is one for MHS and one for LHS

  • Must mail to arrive in the office by May 1

2 - SGC "Somos El Futuro" Scholarship

  • 2.5 or higher GPA

  • Majoring in engineering, business, agriculture, or construction

  • must be of Hispanic descent

Application is in Google Classroom and must be emailed by the due date

2 - Denning-McLamb Teaching Scholarship - UHS Only

  • Must be a UHS senior who plans to become a teacher

  • See Mrs. Dove for an application

  • Return to Mrs. Dove by 12 noon

2- Kappa Rho Chapter Omega Psi Phi Fraternity

  • Applicant must be a male high school senior who will enroll ima a two or four-year accredited institution of higher education

  • The application can be found in the scholarship display or printed from Google Classroom

5 - MHS Future Teacher Scholarship - MHS only 

  • Must plan to become a teacher

  • Application Available in Mrs. Dove's Google Classroom

  • $500

  • Return to Mrs. Dove by 12 noon

5 - Mingo Lodge Scholarship - MHS only

  • 3.0+ GPA required

  • Application available in Google Classroom or guidance

5 - Eastern Carolina Medical Center Dr. Vyas Scholarship

  • The Eastern Carolina Medical Center/Dr. Pankaj K. Vyas Scholarship for Healthcare will award one $3,500 scholarship to a Midway High School student pursuing a career in the healthcare field through post-secondary education at a 4-year college or university and a $1,500 scholarship for one student who will attend a community college pursuing a healthcare career.
    Eligibility requirements include:

  • Plan to pursue a career in the healthcare field

  • Minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Demonstrate a financial need

  • Demonstrate qualities that would embody

    a healthcare professional, including good character, responsibility, hard work, etc.

  • Applications can be found in Google Classroom or the scholarship display.

8 - Al Britt Scholarship - HHS only 

Criteria to be considered for the Al Britt Scholarship:

  • Must have made contributions to football (player, scorekeeper, manager etc) for at least 2 seasons.

  • Must have made overall contributions to HHS

  • GPA will also be taken into consideration.  

  • Evidence of admission to a four-year university, a two-year college, or a certifiable program

  • Application available in Mrs. Dove's Google Classroom or in guidance 

  • Return to Mrs. Dove by 12 noon

8 - NC Safari Allen Raynor Safety Awareness Scholarship - HHS Only

  • Hunter Safety Certificate required

  • Average of B required

  • Application in the scholarship display

  • Return to Mrs. Dove

8 - Spearman Teaching Legacy Scholarship - HHS only

  • For students who wish to be a teacher

  • Application in Google Classroom

Return to Mrs. Dove by 12 noon

15- Patriot Foundation Scholarship

  • Supports the educational goals of military and veteran families through scholarships

  • NC Patriot Star Family RECOVERY Scholarship and NC Patriot STAR Family Scholarship programs available

  • available to the children and spouses of fallen or disabled veterans, children of injured active-duty service members, as well as qualifying disabled veterans

30 - Cape Fear Community College Scholarship

31- American Indian College Fund

Any Native American U.S. citizen that is a member or descendant of a state or federally recognized tribe with at least a 2.0 grade point average, and enrolled as a full-time student can apply for a scholarship.

ShaWarn Melvin Williams Scholarship - LHS only COMING SOON

  • Application available in guidance or Mrs. Dove's Google Classroom

  • Must have been in the band all 4 years of high school

  • Return the application, essay, and recommendation to Mrs. Dove by 12 noon
